This painting is showcasing a beautiful black women about to enter the afterlife. The facial expression on the woman displays her releasing all the pain and suffering before she leaves. This is her finally coming to peace with everything and the life she’s lived. 
For some people death is a scary thing to talk about, but for our ancestors death was considered a rightful passage into a better world. This was an opportunity to live a better life and be a different person. 
As black women our story continues to get passed down and elevated with each generation, I can’t wait to see how we surpass all our daily challenges and successes in the next few years. 
I hope when the day comes that I must rest I’ve left a mark through Art, that will be my eternal peace.
